Sherrone Moore was wielding knife after firing, according to dispatch audio obtained by TMZ - The Detroit News
Sherrone Moore was "suicidal" and wielding a knife shortly after he was fired as University of Michigan football coach Wednesday, according to dispatch and police audio obtained by The Detroit News. "According to our victim here, he did put a knife to his throat and ran out," according to an officer as police searched for the coach. And later, "they're also advising that when he left the location on their call he walked out with several knives." The audio, parts of which were first published by TMZ and obtained from Broadcastify.com, provided a second-by-second glimpse as Washtenaw County dispatchers and deputies sought to find and contain Moore. The News obtained longer dispatches that provided more detail about the manhunt that led to Moore's arrest. Moore remained in the Washtenaw County jail Thursday, pending a decision on charges by Washtenaw County prosecutors. Police said Thursday he is expected to appear in court and be arraigned Friday in Ann Arbor. Pittsfield Township police didn't immediately respond to a request for comment from The News on Thursday about the dispatch and police audio clips. Police from Saline, Pittsfield Township and the University of Michigan responded to the 3000 block of Ann Arbor Saline Road shortly after 4 p.m. Wednesday, less than an hour before Moore's firing was publicly announced by Michigan over an alleged inappropriate relationship with a staff member. A Michigan football staff member's listed address matches the area to which police were dispatched. In the audio, dispatchers and police discuss taking complaint calls from at least two people, including Moore's wife, who according to the audio told dispatchers that Moore was "suicidal ... for losing his job today." In one clip, a dispatcher said a caller told her a male is at her location in the house, attacking her and has been stalking her for months. Moore is not identified on the audio, but the location is in the same block where police said they arrested Moore. That person, according to the audio, said Moore "walked in with a knife." Later, officers reported that "according to wife and (Moore's) mother, he is in an unknown parking lot somewhere. We are attempting to have wife contact him to try and come home." Dispatchers were trying to pull the location up on a map, they reported, and later officers converged at the The Well Church on Willis Road in Saline Township, where he was found and arrested. Moore, 39, is married with three young children and resides in Ann Arbor. Moore was fired after two seasons as Michigan's head coach and eight years on the staff. Michigan fired him for cause. He had three years left on his contract, which was to pay him more than $6 million a year. Staff Writer George Hunter contributed. tpaul@detroitnews.com @tonypaul1984
